NYC DSLR meet up and such
This summer I’ve been back and forth from DC (Washington D.C that is) and New York City about every other week. But I found out that Philip (Philip Bloom) was going to be doing a NYC meet up the same time I was there. Was excited because this was the first time I was able to see Philip since my internship at Skywalker Ranch with him.
On the day of I made my way down to the Brooklyn Bridge park where the meet up was being held. I saw all of the DSLRs lined up for time lapses and had an inkling I was in the right place. After looking around I finally spotted the big english fella and went up to say hey. Philip always does a great job of making you feel very welcome (or completely the opposite, depends if you’re in the intern stage
He immediately brought me over to meet Jon Connor and Cristinia Maria Valdivieso, the meanest DSLR duo this side of the Mississippi. (And yes, that is in fact Jon Connor of the resistance).
Jon and Cristinia are just awesome. Felt like myself around them right away. I guess that explains the cold shoulder for the rest of the night :0. Also met Tom Markiewicz who is the one responsible for taking these incredibly amazing photos of Cristinia and I. Thanks Tom!
Philip has a new signature series slider coming out by Kessler Crane. I have one of the orginial Kessler Crane pocket dollies (which was a gift by Bloom, yes, thank you. I said it ok!) I love my orginal pocket dolly but Philip’s signature series is insanely smooth. I mean like butta! It works off ball bearings along the rails to make it Bloom smooth, and quiet as can be. I don’t know exact specifics about when it’s coming out or price but it a terrific piece of gear to keep a look out for.
Later on in the night I met THE Blake Whitman of vimeo. Talked to him quite a bit throughout the night and wouldn’t you know it he’s pretty awesome, minus the avocados discussion. Afterwards a bunch of us went out for drinks and dinner. Shared many stories, some hilarious, others, well let’s say they make you cringe just thinking about them.
Had an amazing time in New York this past week and I think it should be said that Philip is just as kind in real life as he seems. He always looks for opportunities to involve those around him. I’m quite thankful for the many opportunities he’s given me to meet new people, learn new techniques and I figure if I keep kissing his ass, who knows, maybe I’ll get one of those new shiny red toys of his

Wow this is a great resource.. I’m enjoying it.. good article
